Panorama Manipulation of Space

Panoramas - A wide-angle representation of a physical space.
A panorama less than 180° is arguably a more correct re-interpretation of the human eye compared with a standard single frame photograph. However, any panorama that exceeds the humans field of vision, gives us a distorted reinterpretation of the space.

Below I have experimented with some panoramas taken on Wellington Waterfront.

The foreground tends to determine how distorted the panorama appears.

Taken from the turret overlooking the Lagoon in Wellington.              taken by Frano Bazalo.
The photo above does not have a subject in the foreground therfore the panorama does not appear distorted.

Above the only foreground is the pathway on either side. This is the only indication of any distortion.

Ilha Grande, Brasil                                                        taken by Frano Bazalo

Because of the foreground included in the panorama, the distortion of the space is magnified. The beach appears to be a bowl, but in reality it is a long, reasonable straight stretch of beach. The use of a panorama can potentially completely change/manipulate the way we perceive the space.
